Billy-Bowlegs
Billy-Bowlegs was natural in the year of 1810. His parents were Secoffee and his capture isnt mentioned. They were both full-blooded Mikasuki Seminole Indians. He didnt define the name bowlegs from the shape of his legs, even though people have in mind he got it from riding his horse. His English name was Billy Bolek, scarce the slaves that escaped from plantations translated his name to be Billy Bowlegs to white settlers.
Bowlegs was born into a family of forefronts. He belonged to the Oconee ethnic music. He lived in present day Micanopy, Florida. Back then it would have been called Cuscowila on the Alachua savannah. At a young age he experienced a upsurge of blood shed with the First Seminole War.
Billy Bowlegs was elected chief because he was wise and was born into a line of chiefs. He was elected chief after his uncle Micanopy was killed during a battle. He was a very good leader because he was a negotiator, and could carry off with the American establishment. He knew how to hide his self and his warriors. He knew how to aviate through the swamps and he would hide himself and his warriors in the trees.
To me he was a good leader because he knew how to lead. He kept his warriors full and he wouldnt put on his shoot up for anything.



The government tried many things to get him to move out west. Since he was a good leader he wouldnt give his land up to the white settlers. In 1832, Billy Bowlegs sign the Treaty of Paynes Landing, which the treaty negotiated there called for the Seminoles to move west, if the land was found to be suitable. They were to be settled on the brook reservation and become part of the Creek tribe. They eventually got him and his tribe to move by a bribe, but when h travel he never got it. His tribe was actually one of the sound tribes to move out west.
